Not a fan of concrete jungles, in fact, I’d rather spend my day out by the White Rock lake or a grassy field - preferably somewhere in the big, bad ass Texan state (where the home is). Very much so dislike underexposed smartphone photos because the poor quality irritates me to no end. But with the modern technological way of life of instant Twitter updates and mobile uploads, acceptance is the only way. Sometimes I wish long periods of social interaction wouldn’t tire me out so easily as I do enjoy having the occasional good conversation. Then again, solitude makes for contemplation, contour lines and dissecting Owl City lyrics which aren’t too bad afterall.
It was my best friend from sixth grade who told me to take on Journalism. “Hey don’t you like writing and making pictures? Journalism should be the thing for you!” said she. Little did we know that this consisted of sourcing, building contact lists and chasing after the news. I suppose for those eager to become a voice for the masses it is a good occupation though I, however, have less lofty ambitions (Especially after coming into knowledge of the Propaganda Model and the dark, dark side of the media industry). Socializing, making small talk and putting up a facade for occupational purposes is something I dread. Would much rather get to know someone because I am genuinely interested in them, instead of (un)intentionally writing sensationalised quotes from the brief exchange. However, I do say that writing about good eats, cultural experiences and sociological issues and writing in general still interest me at large and I hope to be able to do some of that on the side when I go back home to pursue my masters in fine art. Yet for the time being, I still prefer chasing traces of the glowing sunset with my olympus E PL-1, blasting Owl City while drawing trees growing out of coke bottles and admiring pieces of man’s culture and heritage with le andy eyes.
